For real. Thanks Linsey for the link, and Ben for the wonderful work!

i am one of those people who admire industrious artists

DOWN WITH HIPPIE BULLCRAP

UP WITH THE REVIVAL OF THIS DYING INDUSTRY

LET ME THROW MY MONEY AT YOU in modest amounts because i am terrible/need to eat also

Reblogging again because I didn’t say anything before when I did the first time:

You have something that you can make with your OWN HANDS. Not many people can say that. Don’t cheapen the fact that you can by offering it up for free. Believe in your talent. The world will only take from you until you’re useless and you’ll have nothing to show for it.

Always calculate how much it costs to produce your work. Supplies, canvases, paint, gas and travel to and from shows. And on top of that is the cost of your time to make said art. Make sure that you put all of that into the cost of your work. If you don’t, you’re losing money. You are not a charity. You need to eat too.

THIS. I do art for a living. Freelancers of all sorts go through good times and lean times. I’ve hit a lean spot myself, and everything I make to sell is to pay bills, make sure I have materials to make more stuff with, to make sure my computer works because it is an important work and communication tool, and to eat. These are all equally important.

I goof off a lot, but it brings me people from other places that normally would miss my work (lol advertising), and that ends up adding to my customer base to ensure I keep producing stuff people like. All artists need to think about that.

There ARE people that will try to drive your price down because they don’t want to pay more than X amount of money, but those that value your work will pay what you ask. Continue to do good work and please your customer base, and oft times, they’ll happily pay MORE because they know you’re worth it.

Never devalue yourself or your work. It’s not worth it.

Just thought this was more than worth reblogging.  And I’ll leave it at that for the sake of not ranting.  (Here.  …Now.)

Really, why fight it?

Shiny Things Tumblr. Full of my shinies.
Pillowfort. Because, you know.

You also may have guessed that I was behind Awaiting Mass Production and Calamity's Shattered Son. ...And I absolutely will not admit to letting Noctis and Prompto wander free. Ssshh.
